ABOUT US – MELBOURN FETE COMMITTEE
Melbourn Fete aims to bring the village together, to have fun, socialise and raise money for local groups.
Each year the committee organises the day so that local clubs, societies and charities can set-up stalls and provide entertainment to help with their fundraising. All proceeds are put back into the community. Over the last few years we have donated over £33,000 to many local groups and good causes.
The first Melbourn Fete was started in 1986, and the event ran for 10 years. It then stopped for 5 years, before starting again in 2003. Music on the Moor first made an appearance in 2009; 2016 was its last year. Every year the Melbourn Fete goes from strength to strength, with more fun, attractions and stalls. Come along and join us on 20th June 2020 to see what it’s all about!
Following a successful fete in 2018, Melbourn Committee decided to move to a once every 2 years’ event. We continue to operate other local events with our community partners including Melbourn Open Gardens and Turn on to Christmas. Also we support other village events through the loan of equipment and volunteers.
We welcome anyone wishing to join us to help organise these events . For further information then contact the Fete Secretary at secretary.melbournfete@gmail.com or via our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MelbournFete ,
Our aim is fun and fundraising for Melbourn and we have managed to collect and donate more than £33,000 to voluntary groups and good causes based in the village during the recent period of the Fete. As well as many others, these have included: A Chain of Wild Flowers, All Saints Community Hall, Bassingbourn ATC, Melbourn Lunch Club, Melbourn Mobile Warden Scheme, Melbourn Primary School, Home Start, MVC Ghana Students, Melbourn Youth Club; MVC Summer School, McSplash Swimming Club, Royal British Legion Woman’s Section and Meridian Triathlon This record figure has resulted from the generous support of Melbourn Parish Council and our sponsors, as well as the hard work of our volunteers. In addition to planning the Fete, our Committee contributes to and supports other village events, through the loan of equipment and volunteers.
